Our BBC Antiques Road Trip Experience

Earlier this year we had the pleasure of appearing on the BBC’s Antiques Road Trip — an experience that was both exciting and slightly surreal.

For a small independent antiques shop in Scarborough, being contacted by the BBC was something we never expected. But it was a brilliant opportunity to showcase what we do and the kind of items we deal in every day.

How It Came About

The production team got in touch after researching independent antiques dealers in the area. They were looking for shops with interesting stock, character, and knowledgeable sellers — and fortunately, we ticked those boxes.

Filming days are long, but incredibly well organised. The crew were professional, friendly, and genuinely interested in the history behind the pieces.

Television makes everything look quick and simple. In reality, there’s a lot going on behind the scenes.

What It Was Really Like

The experts you see on screen are exactly as they appear — knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and passionate about antiques.

There’s always a bit of pressure when cameras are rolling, but once conversations start flowing about pottery, militaria, or collectables, it becomes natural. Antiques are what we do every day, and that makes a difference.

One of the best parts of the experience was seeing how much interest there still is in British antiques and design history.

Why It Mattered

Appearing on national television wasn’t just exciting — it reinforced something important:

There is still real appreciation for quality, history, craftsmanship, and the stories behind objects.

In a world moving quickly toward disposable everything, antiques represent durability, character, and heritage.

That’s something we strongly believe in.

After the Show

Following the broadcast, we welcomed new customers who had seen us on the programme. It brought fresh conversations, new buying opportunities, and introduced more people to what we do.

Television exposure is great — but the real value is building lasting relationships with buyers and sellers.

Looking to Buy or Sell?

If you have antiques you’re considering selling — whether pottery, militaria, silver, or collectables — we’re always interested.

And if you’re looking for something with history and character, you’re very welcome to visit us in Scarborough.

The cameras may have gone, but the passion for antiques remains exactly the same.
