About The Vintage Window

About Us

The Vintage Window is an independent antique and vintage shop in the heart of Scarborough, run by husband-and-wife team Jonathan and Fay Thompson. Since opening in 2017, we’ve focused on making quality antiques, retro pieces, collectables and militaria accessible, affordable and enjoyable.

We believe vintage shopping should feel like a treasure hunt — full of history, craftsmanship and character. Every item in our shop is chosen with care, whether it’s a Victorian medal, a piece of mid-century ceramics, or a nostalgic pop culture find.

Located between the Grand Hotel and Royal Hotel in Scarborough’s Victorian parade of shops, we’re proud to be part of the town’s independent retail scene.

If you’re looking to sell, we offer a fair and straightforward buying service — ideal for single items, collections, or those seeking an alternative to auction house fees.

There’s always something new to discover.

Our Approach

We value authenticity, fair pricing and genuine knowledge. Nothing is here by accident. Each piece has a story, and we take pride in offering items that stand apart from today’s disposable culture.

Our stock changes constantly, keeping the shop fresh and worth revisiting.

Dont just peer through our windows come in and have a look around inside.

A True Victorian Shopfront

The Vintage Window is housed in a genuine Victorian shop, built before the neighbouring Grand Hotel and rich in local history. Over the years, the premises has been home to a photography studio, a glove seller, a shoe shop and jewellers — each leaving its mark on the building’s character.

With its original panelled walls and impressive large display windows, the shop retains the charm and craftsmanship of a proper nineteenth-century retail space. Those expansive windows, designed to draw in passers-by more than a century ago, inspired our name —

The Vintage Window. Today, the building continues its story as a place of discovery, where history isn’t just sold, but lived.
